Yep, it’s almost Saturday again! Hope you all had a great week and enjoyed some of our nice weather. This week was about getting landscape beds cleaned and tidied, canning, and cleaning. I’ve made a small dent, and hope to keep this momentum and get all of the property back under control (and maybe mulched). The veggie gardens don’t require much from me this time of year other than water, picking, and a some amendments here and there. Another handful of plants are finished and need to be pulled, but there are new things coming, too!
There are two rows of radishes, a newly seeded row of kale, Babybeets, and some carrots on our horizon. There are two flats with spinach and lettuce sprouts (spotty germination again with fluctuating temps) and they will get planted late next week. Birds have been a real nuisance to the seedlings, so these greens will get covered to protect them. I’d better also hang some noisemakers and reflective ribbons out there to help even more. The broccoli has been enjoying this cooler, shorter days and gave a nice harvest today. There are a few slicing tomatoes that are trying so hard to get fruits to ripen. When I say a few, it literally means about six plants that are still viable. The cherry tomatoes are slowing and are splitting easily when picking, so their days are numbered. Peppers, however, are hitting the accelerator! The harvest today is beautiful, and has the biggest bell pepper I’ve ever seen!
Baking this afternoon includes 4 mini loaves of pear bread and 6 loaves of Italian focaccia. Please remember that if you’d like something baked for a day other than Saturday, just get in touch!
