Just a quick reminder that I’ll be popping up at Rescued in downtown Silvis tomorrow morning. The shop is located on the corner of 1st Avenue and 9th Street, just half a block east of the iconic Frank’s Pizza. There is parking in front of the shop on 1st Avenue, on both sides of 9th Street alongside the shop, and more out back across the alley, if needed. Your good dog is welcome to shop with you! Daisy will probably give me a thorough “scent check” when I get home.
This has been a busy week of making products to fill my display in the shop, making dry mixes, baking, baking, and baking, and gathering up everything. I’m happy to say that everything is ready and packed in crates! Whew – that took a minute.
My display has things like sugar scrubs, lotion bars, foot soak & scrub, pillow sprays, a couple of Epsom salt soaks, rollerballs of all kinds of scents including one that is just lavender, and room sprays. These products use natural ingredients and essential oils (no artificial scents or fragrance oils).
The baking included three kinds of biscotti, mini loaves of pumpkin bread (no oil), pear bread (great fall spices in this light, tender bread), a few Italian focaccia, cardamom cookies, almond cookies (that I haven’t made in a long time), and lots of granola.
There are 6 jars of apple butter, 4 jars of plum butter (lightly spiced), 4 jars of plum jam, 4 jars of spiced plum jam, 3 peach jalapeno jams, and 3 raspberry jalapeno jams in crates, too! Let’s remember the dark and extra dark cocoa mixes and 12 packages of chai latte mix which would be great on this chilly, damp weekend. There are also some instant potato soup mixes and seasoned salts (regular and spicy).
Right now, I need to go out and put the heater in the little hoop house to help keep the young lettuce plants warm overnight. Everything else in the gardens has finished, and the last flowers are on their own tonight. This past Monday, the last peppers were harvested and donated to a local organization that assists homeless people, including offering a meal site. I hope that they will make some delicious foods that nourish people with all those peppers (280 in total, if you were curious).
Please grab a friend and come down to Rescued to check out the shop, which is constantly restocking, taking in gently used items and helping pay veterinary bills for local animals in need. I know it will be chilly in the morning, but we’ve passed the mid-point of October, so it was bound to happen. The temp should come up quickly and it is supposed to be sunny, so there’s the upside. Hope to see you there!
