What purpose?
Many of you know that I have a display of products at Rescued in downtown Silvis and that I support their mission in several other ways through the year. They are celebrating their 11th anniversary and it seems like the perfect time to boost donations to them.
What IS Rescued? Rescued (<— click to see their website) is a non-profit organization that operates a boutique resale shop and uses the proceeds to help local pets that are in need of veterinary care that the owner is unable to afford. To date, they have donated $1,183,000 to local pets. That’s a staggering amount and shows that there is definitely a need for their organization. How can we help?
Twenty five percent of the sales on Saturday will be donated to Rescued! I’m baking, prepping, picking fall stuff, and making products (sugar scrubs, pillow sprays, and more) for Saturday’s farmstand. Cash donations will also be accepted, if you feel inclined to do that instead. Every dollar helps when it comes to operating a non-profit.
What can we expect? There are 24 baskets of pears (1# baskets or a 5# bag) for $1.50 per pound. These trees do not get sprayed. My FB page has a post with pictures and several recipe ideas for pears. I’ve baked cranberry oatmeal cookies, and am making a new chocolate espresso cookie recipe, too. Other baking will include mini pumpkin bread, spiced applesauce bread, and mini pear blueberry crisps. There are lots of fresh granola packaged up, and a boatload of chai latte mix was made and packaged yesterday! It’s time to stock up your pantry, your workstation, and your friends with that delicious, warm chai mix. I’ve picked some more acorn squash, a small bin of ornamental gourds & mini white pumpkins (the pumpkins are edible), and I’ll check the spaghetti squash and pattypan squash again tomorrow. We will see a small amount of tomatoes, some beets, Swiss chard, hopefully some carrots, and beans. You know there are jams, and this is the time to get those plum items because once they’re gone, we will have to wait until next August for them to come around again.
How will it work? On Friday, around lunchtime, I will post all the things that will definitely be available, and you can send me your request until 6:00 pm. Orders will close then, and I will begin putting orders together and finishing up all the last details. This will certainly help us be efficient if the weather is rainy Saturday morning – which is a possibility and the forecast changes every couple of hours. Do you need to put in an order to join in? Nope! Just be aware that some things may be sell out with pre-orders. I will make a donation box or jar for those of you who want to make a cash donation.
Will it be fun? Umm, yeah! You, me, Scott, Daisy and lots of great fall things?? Yep, it will be fun! Will Rescued be grateful? Oh my gosh, YES!
