It’s Friday!!! Yaaaayyyy! Rain and a house issue have me running behind schedule, so No Pre-orders today, please. I’m heading back out to pick more, and the baking will happen later this afternoon than expected. What I do know is that the second planting of broccolini is now finished. On a positive note, the second planting of regular broccoli gave us two bags (3/4# each) this morning!
Beans continue to come in slowly, but the heat-loving Jade bean has many seeds sprouting and the earliest row has some plants trying to set flowers. Two short rows of Jade were seeded into an empty bed yesterday, and some white pattypan squash were seeded into another. Those are exciting things! My dear friend came and helped me tuck/train/trim some tomatoes on Tuesday and I did more that afternoon. Yesterday, five more got some attention. This will help them focus on fruits. For a reference, we usually pick our first slicing tomatoes between July 25th and 29th. This year, they slowly started early. There have been 17 small/early ones, 5 big slicers, and 1 heirloom sold and we’ve got some for tomorrow. There have been a few baskets of cherry, salad and Roma, too. They’re coming… Just need to prune more and let the heat help them along. Be patient – I’m doing everything to help keep them healthy and happy.
