It’s Friday, so that means that things have been getting picked, packed and washed (and double washed) for tomorrow morning. I’ll be set up on the driveway by 9:00 and open until noon or sellout. Hope you’re hungry! There’s a good variety, but a few things are low in quantities and the broccoli heads and zucchini/yellow squash rotted with all the rain and high humidity. Cucumbers are on the lower side of normal, but they’re still making flowers through all the adversity!
A double batch of fruit crisps will be made now that Daisy and I are back from a walk. My energy is low today. There has been so much picking, packing, fixing stuff, worrying about the gardens, an issue with the truck, the heavy air making it twice as hard to work outside even when it’s not raining that I’m just tired. It is August, and this is always when it hits, so it’s normal and temporary. Some mild days, lower humidity, a relaxed pace, and more time doing “fun” things will cure it right up!
Here I am – still in the game, though! There’s a plan to pull things that are clearly done or beyond saving. At least one flat of lettuce seeds will be sown for a new crop earlier than in past years, and maybe some more kale will be seeded, too. There is a bed that will get spinach seeds, and a flat of broccolini has sprouted. Acorn squash and those mini white pumpkins look great! The gourds and short row of spaghetti squash took some wind, so on the next dry day, they’ll get some attention – but there are loads of flowers on all of them! I’ll find a place to seed a couple of rows of radishes, and there are several rows of carrots up and looking good. While the tomatoes are still an at-risk crop, there is hope if we can keep some breeze flowing through to dry the foliage. There are also the 3 plants that went in on July 4th and they’re beautiful and setting fruits. They missed all the topsy-turvy spring and early summer weather and only know the hot, humid weather and they have zero cares about what’s happened in the last week. 🙂
OK, here’s what I know we’ll have, and I respectfully ask that you just show up tomorrow and get what you want. Pulling orders tonight is not going to happen. Thanks for understanding.
